Twitter To Launch Reality Shows Online??

Twitter looks to be expanding their social network empire to include online reality shows.

The San Francisco, Calif.-based company, along with multiple Hollywood producers and network execs, are in serious talks about the possibility of launching several original video series via Twitter, according to sources. One project in particular could debut this year, potentially as early as the fall, said sources with knowledge of the discussions. Twitter, they said, has been actively pitching a select group of advertisers on a video series that would live on Twitter and enable users to participate in real time in some fashion.

Twitter declined to comment.

The original series has been described by sources as similar to MTV reality shows The Real World and The Hills; in fact, one of the producers behind The Hills is said to be behind the project. Per sources, the show could live on a standalone Twitter page similar to the events page that Twitter launched in partnership with Nascar in June, although the series’ page would more closely resemble a microsite in order to feature an expanded video player. Another possibility is that the series would be distributed within tweets—promoted, organic or pinned to a brand’s Twitter page—with users clicking to expand the tweet into a full-fledged video player.

Prince Michael Jackson Has Something To Say

The Jackson family drama is in full mode right about now. We have heard from the brothers, Paris, and saw Janet get her Auntie on. But Prince Michael Jackson Jr has been pretty quiet, that is until now. Prince has taken to Twitter to tell his side of the story.

I would first like to start off this tweet by thanking the fans that have always stood by me and my family, my dad really appreciated your support and I still treasure it to this day. As I am sure everyone is well aware of the events that have been going on. I have been holding off on backing up my sister and her tweets avidly because I was waiting for the time to reveal my side. As long as I can remember my dad had repeatedly warned me of certain people and their ways. Although I am happy my grandma was returned, after speaking with her I realized how misguided and how badly she was lied to. I’m really angry and hurt. The following image is of a group chat I had started to several family members. This group text message I had started was replied to but they didn’t know that I could see the responses. For this whole time, they denied us contact to our grandmother. “If you continue with your lies I will continue with the truth”

Somebody please settle this nonsense. It seems to be getting crazier by the minute.

Chris Rock’s 4th of July Tweet…. And Why We Should Be Mindful On What We Celebrate

Chris Rock took to his Twitter page on the 4th 0f July and dropped a little knowledge on Independence Day, basically that it means nothing to African-Americans.

“Happy white peoples independence day the slaves weren’t free but I’m sure they enjoyed fireworks.”

Now maybe you can blame the Malcolm X that was engraved in my psyche since the red, black, and green medallion days, but I find nothing wrong with this Tweet. Of course conservatives may have a different view-point than those of Chris’, but was he wrong? What were Africans in America doing around 1776? Knee deep in someone’s cotton field. They still had a close to 90 years of bondage. So freedom/independence  to some meant bondage/servitude to others.

I’m not bashing or criticizing those African-Americans who love the hell out of July 4th. To each its own, but please be mindful of what you choose to celebrate. Do you think the average non African-American would celebrate Juneteenth?

U R What U Tweet: 5 Steps To A Better Personal Brand (Swipe)

If you take a look at the top 10 Twitter users you’ll see a list of famous men and women, from Justin Bieber to Selena Gomez, who have used the popular platform to further expand their personal brands. Perhaps more interesting, however, is how everyday people are investing more time and energy into social networking for professional purposes.

Just over a year ago, a local 16-year-old high school student emailed me out of the blue, proposing that he join me as a guest on a TV show I host. Winston Sih didn’t send along a resume, but instead included links to his website, Twitter account, Facebook page, and three relevant YouTube clips. While there are plenty of examples of teens jeopardizing their digital reputation, with bullying and threats on friends’ walls or late-night “I hate my job” tweets, Sih is a perfect example of someone who has learned how to use the web to his advantage–building a strong and positive personal brand before he even reaches his adult years (12 months into his brand-building exercise, he is already a well-known regular tech TV expert and blogger–and he’s not even out of high school yet).

While few of us will ever have the celebrity factor to drive our online networks (or a PR spin team to protect us if we post something stupid), there is a lot we can learn from Sih and other personal brand-builders. In 2012, if you have a plan in place, smart social networking is the key to taking control of your professional life. Here are 5 steps to building a better personal brand online.

1. Have a home base online.  While Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn are excellent destinations to promote what you do, make sure that you also invest time and energy into your own personal website. Whether you take advantage of easy-to-use tools such as Squarespace or WordPress, a simple and clean online home for all your professional information and social streams is a necessity. Not only is it critical to build this home base, but it’s also important to drive traffic back to this site to further educate visitors about what you do (or want to do) for a living. Finally, use a professional headshot on your site to give you that competitive edge (sorry–a cropped Facebook photo just won’t do!).

2. Be a better blogger.  Although online pundits regularly declare that blogging is dead, such as Jason Calacanis did at a tech conference toward the end of December, blogging has simply become much more diverse. It’s no longer necessary to write multi-paragraph posts, but instead services such as Tumblr make it easy for individuals to share shorter entries or snippets of text that often include photos and other multimedia. A weekly blog update (or more frequent if you can afford the time) that includes some shareable content is a useful way to drive traffic back from social channels to your website (and to establish yourself as an expert on a topic).

3. Avoid mobile mistakes.  In April 2009, we often referred to Ashton Kutcher as the King of Twitter. This past November, the actor posted a tweet defending Penn State’s Joe Paterno (without realizing the sex abuse controversy surrounding the coach) that inspired a “hailstorm of responses” from Kutcher’s many followers. Once again, this was an example of how 140 characters or less can immediately damage someone’s reputation. Moreover, with more people posting from mobile phones, it’s far too easy to make a real-time mistake like this–whether it’s updating your status with an inappropriate comment or letting auto-correct do some digital damage. In other words, when networking on the go make sure you carefully review what you’re about to push live or, perhaps a better idea, wait until you have a few minutes to review the update without so many mobile distractions.

4. Never stop networking.  For non-celebrities who build themselves into well-known brands online, take a look at how frequently they interact. For example, social media author Scott Stratten has tweeted more than 80,000 times. If he’s not sharing digital wisdom across his many online channels, he’s responding to messages and reaching out to people to keep the web conversation going. If you don’t know where to start, whether it’s on LinkedIn or Twitter, find five new people to follow or connect with every day. Make an effort to share something these people have posted or, a simple task, reach out and say hello.

5. Adopt new services.  When it comes to personal branding, there is a lot of emphasis on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, but there are plenty of other channels to tell your story. Take a look at how well author Timothy Ferriss has used short YouTube videos to promote his 4-Hour mantra and other activities. Google+ is a solid new service for building a personal brand and apps, such as Path, will also allow you to network with people you care about connecting with on a professional level (keep in mind that the latter has a 150-friend limit). While it’s not critical to jump on every newly launched service, it can help to choose two or three of the most popular services and then every few months try a new platform on for size.

Michelle Tells A Fan A Thing Or Two In Regards To Beyonce

Michelle Williams is usually the quiet one, but she took to Twitter to diss a fan who questioned why the singer didn’t send out any well wishes to Beyonce, Jay-Z and Baby Blue.

“Let’s get ONE thing straight….I do NOT have to say congrats to someone when they’re NOT on twitter…ESPECIALLY when I talk or email them all the time….or when I’ll be physically present as well…so harrassing and stalking my timeline to see if I’ve mentioned something is POINTLESS!!! My friendship with people aren’t always for twitter display. Respect that and get a LIFE!!! Enjoy this FINE day!!! God bless!!!! This is a beautiful, precious, private time between two people and excitement is to be expected but NOT disrespect! #churchdismissed”

Well now….. carry on everyone.

Don’t Go Messing Up Lennon Songs Cee-Lo!!!

Damn Lennon fans are very sensitive when it comes to their idol. LAst night during the New Years celebrations Cee-Lo did his rendition of the classic John Lennon song Imagine. And he took his creative license to rework a lyric and he fooled around and pissed off the masses.

Charged with singing Lennon’s famous solo-era tune on NBC’s New Year’s Eve show shortly before the ball dropped in Times Square , Green changed the lyrics from “Nothing to kill or die for, And no religion too” to “Nothing to kill or die for, And all religion’s true.”

The change didn’t go unnoticed, and to preempt criticism, he soon tweeted, “Yo I meant no disrespect by changing the lyric guys! I was trying to say a world were u could believewhat u wanted that’s all.”

Damn Cee-Lo. We know.

Now This Is Some Old Spooky Dooky

I couldn’t make this story up if I tried.

Former Weezer band member turned artist Mikey Welsh’s death Saturday at the age of 40 was a shock to many fans.

But People magazine reports the bassist eerily tweeted the time and place of his death two weeks prior.

According to the publication, Welsh wrote a note on the social networking site on September 26 which read, “dreamt i died in chicago next weekend (heart attack in my sleep). need to write my will today.” He then added a second tweet that said “correction – the weekend after next.”

According to Chicago police, Welsh was found “unresponsive and not breathing” on Saturday at the Raffaello Hotel. He was reportedly in town to see his former band perform Sunday at Chicago’s RiotFest. As of Monday, a cause of death had not yet been determined.

LA Sheriff’s Department Accepts Game’s Apology

Game has nothing to worry about after the LA Sheriffs department accepted his apology for a joke going wrong. Last week the Compton rapper tweeted a series of random phone numbers that ended up being to the sheriff’s station. An influx of calls soon followed as thousands of followers began calling the station.

Yesterday Game took to CNN to clear the air and apology for the incident. “One of my boys picked up my phone and started tweeting random numbers,” he explained. The tweets came sometime after an earlier tweet when Game advertised that he was looking for interns. “The tweet about the internship was earlier in that day. It got lost in the media… He never sent out a tweet that said ‘these numbers are for an internship.’ He just tweeted a bunch of numbers jokingly.”

“I never want to be the source of anything wrong happening to anybody, or anyone not being able to get through to help lines at the police station. But it’s a ten-digit toll-free number, and when people are in trouble, they call 911.”

“I don’t ever want to see anyone get hurt. I got kids at home, I got a woman at home. My sincerest apologies to the sheriff’s department, but it was a joke gone wrong.”

Soon after the LA Sheriff’s Department issued a statement accepting Game’s apology.

“His willingness to help share with the media and the community that the safety of the public is what is most important, is a great message,” the department said. “Based upon our investigation, as well as consultation with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, the LASD considers the criminal investigation into this matter closed. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will not be seeking criminal charges.”
