Technology Connection & Reality Disconnection

We are living in the times of technology. Which has gained us leaps & bounds in the way of information and access to EVERYTHING!

But this is by far not without casualties of reality.

Today there are more influences of what one wants than what one actually needs.

Nowadays perhaps there are more single people because they are forever looking online, facebooking, tweeting, instagramming and so on and so on …. Giving the idea that there is something better, shinier, and more exciting elsewhere.

This has an incredible impact on how reality is handled. Although it is not a bad idea to open your mind and explore the possibilities of furthering an education, learning about different cultures, or even checking out the current trends of life….

But to ignore the reality of what is actually within arms reach and disregard the daily tasks of living is a real disconnect.

Social media has a few married couples starting to think that they settled too soon, younger folks think social media is their next ticket to fast stardom, not to mention THE THIRST!!!! This encompasses a variety of people looking for anything and everything to feed the want to be seen, loved, acknowledged, validated, etc, etc, etc…..

Technology has become the be all to end all. Without it, we learned patience and diligence. With it we have convenience and instant gratification.

I’m not saying I’m not a fan because I surely appreciate living in an age where anything is available at the touch of a button but it is not without revelation that connecting through a mainframe will never be the same as connecting with one another in real-time with real life through real experiences.

When a friend went on to tell me how they were so caught up in Candy Crush that they almost got fired, I thought, DANG! When is too much, too much?! Another person told a story about their neighbor that hadn’t tended to their yard in months but is always sitting on their porch with a lap top… And the catalyst for this blog entry was when someone was telling me about how they would rather just buy their kids ipads & all that instead of helping them with homework or dealing with having to entertain them.

Connections to technology have really made it far too easy for a disconnection from reality.

With that being said, I’m logging off and going outside to play!

Shake a hand, give a hug, go and talk FACE to FACE with someone.

*cue Soul II Soul* …

back to life back to the present time
back from a fantasy
tell me now take the initiative
ill leave it in your hands until your ready

Just When You Thought You Were Safe…… Instagram Can Sell Your Photos

1217_instagram_660

Well it looks like all of those pictures we posted on Instagram can now be sold by the company to a third-party without our consent. Yep, that means that picture of all the bottles of Ciroc you and your friends downed one night can photoshopped with Diddy saying “take that… take that…”

So if that is your last straw fear not; you can terminate your account. But let it be known once you eliminate your existence from Instagram you can never use that name again. Moguls just make sure you download all of pictures first before you jump ship.

Mogul Gift Ideas: Ion Profile Pro USB Turntable

Ion Profile Pro Turntable

Moguls & She-Moguls…this is what technology is good for! I like this product so much…I made Santa give it to me for being so good all year long. After all…Mogul-ing is hard work. You see, my taste is a little on the nostalgic side. Nostalgic to the tune of more vinyl records than I can count. Some of the pieces I enjoy the most, I’ve purchased CDs for,but honestly, it’s just not the same. I enjoy the light crackle and hiss of a needle riding a groove. The Ion Profile Pro gave me a modern upgrade for just listening, and allows me to make an MP3 file that imports easily into my iTunes so that I can take the sounds I enjoy with me. It also takes some wear and tear off of my aging collection, and gives me the opportunity to enjoy these treasures more often than I already do. Features include:

  • EZ Vinyl/Tape Converter software guides through transfer steps
  • Connect and convert other music sources via 1/8″ aux input
  • Built-in preamp – play records on home stereo or home theatre
  • Hinged dust cover protects needle and keeps slipmat clean
  • Convert LPs to MP3s via USB connection to Mac or PC

Make the music lover/pack rat in your life happy this season ;-)

Is Bigger Better? A Look at Samsung’s Galaxy Note II (Swipe)

Whenever I test a new gadget, I like handing it over to my non-tech friends to see what they think. That’s what I did the night I got the Galaxy Note II, Samsung’s update to its polarizing phone/tablet hybrid that will go on sale through T-Mobile and AT&T for around $299.99 with a two-year contract.

My friends had no idea what they were holding. Most were surprised when I told them it was actually a phone. That’s because the Note II is massive compared to other smartphones thanks to its 5.5-inch display, which is big enough to fit an entire iPhone 5 with plenty of glass still peeking out from either side. Add in the bezel and most humans won’t be able to operate this thing with one hand. It’s that huge.

Then there’s the stylus, which Samsung calls the S Pen, a relic of the Palm Pilot era that has been modified with nifty tricks beyond just writing and doodling. For example, the S Pen can detect how hard you press on the screen and act as a mouse cursor for hovering over drop-down menus on websites.

So the Note II is big. But is it worth buying? Here’s a look at how it performs.

Virginia Beach McDonald’s Has Free iPad Usage

A Virginia Beach McDonald’s has decided to let their customers get their iPad on. The restaurant upped it’s technology card and added iPads to the menu. Now while diners eat Big Macs and McRibs, they can also surf an iPad mounted to the table. Now in theory this sounds like a fantastic idea. I mean while I am enjoying my McNuggets I can also swipe a screen that billions of other people have swiped!!! Sounds a little disgusting to me.
