The New Whiskey Rebellion (Swipe)

These Days, Every State is Kentucky
There’s a happy ending to the story that started with the utter lunacy of Prohibition. That ill-advised experiment was repealed in 1933, but the squeeze it put on local whiskey markets lasted for decades. Right up until this decade, pretty much, when enough states—everywhere from New York to Wisconsin to Oregon— eased up on the liquor laws enough to spark a new whiskey-making renaissance. Which is good for you (more choices) and good for stalwarts like Jack, Johnnie, and Jim (more of a reason to up their game). All told, there are at least twice as many whiskey distilleries in the United States today as there were just three years ago. The result: more tasty hooch than you’ll ever have time to swill— not just bourbons, but ryes and American single malts. Bars that don’t even bother with clear spirits. Restaurants with whiskey lists instead of wine pairings. All you need’s a tumbler, and we can recommend one of those, too. But first, here’s the…

Would You Like To Travel 220mph???

high-speed-rail-mapThe map shows where this 220mph train would possibly go if it ever gets the green light.

Whether a high-speed rail system ever gets built in the United States is still up in the air, but if it is, artist and activist Alfred Twu has figured out exactly where those speedy rail lines should go.

Twu started working on this map in 2009, when President Obama’s plan to build high-speed railwas unveiled. “There were many such maps being made by various designers,” says Twu, but since then he’s updated the map with labels and put it on Facebook, and it struck a chord. It’s gone viral.

“With the huge response it’s generated, I created a petition to the White House to fund such a system,” he told Mashable. After just a week, that White House petition already has 27,528 signatures.

I swear it seems like Dubai gets every damn thing. Now these cats will have a chance to sleep with the fish and wake up to tell people about it. Dubai has plans to open the  ”Water Discus, a futuristic hotel with one component located about 10 meters beneath the sea. The bottom component will contain 21 rooms. The hotel will be built by a Poland-based company named Deep Ocean Technology (DOT).The Independent reports that DOT has partnered with Swiss firm BIG InvestConsult AG to build the hotel. Emirates 24/7 reports that construction of the unusual hotel will begin this year in Gdynia, Poland.”

TSA Officer Caught Slipping W/Stolen iPad

You would think that the TSA would have measures in place just for situations like this. Can you imagine the come-up some of these agents have every day they go to work?

In a sting operation conducted by Brian Ross of ABC News, iPads and cash were left behind in airport security checkpoints.

In nine of the ten airports visited, passengers were asked to return to pick up their belongings, which were clearly labeled with their name and contact information.

However, after an iPad went missing in Orlando, the news organization tracked it back to the home of TSA officer Andy Ramirez, where reporters confronted the man and asked him if he had it. He repeatedly said he did not have it.

The reporters then set off iCloud’s audible alert, which began ringing inside Ramirez’s house. Only after taking off his TSA uniform did he return and acknowledge that he did in fact have it, but he continued to insist that he did not take it, initially blaming his wife for obtaining it.

“I’m so embarrassed,” Ramirez told reporters. “My wife says she got the iPad and brought it home,” he said.

When told he was filmed handling the iPad at airport security, and that it was tracked back to his home afterward, Ramirez stopped talking.

The TSA said Ramirez is no longer working for the agency. It noted that it has fired 11 officers for theft this year, and a total of 381 dating back to 2003.

Dubai Has Everything I See

Now this is Fresh.

The latest architectural wonder to call Dubai its home is none other than a half-submerged hotel, complete with underwater rooms offering views of life below the surface of the sea. Christened the ‘Water Discus Hotel’ , this spaceship-shaped building is set to be the first of several planned across the region. Designed by Deep Ocean Technology (DOT), this hotel will surely please the so called “water baby’s” who love exploring the depths of the deep blue sea.

The hotel will comprise of two main discs, one above water and one below. These two discs will be connected by three ‘legs’ which contain lifts and stairways to plunge guests from the sunshine above down beneath the surface of the sea. The underwater section is located up to 10 meters deep and comprises of 21 rooms adjacent to the submerged dive centre and a bar. Offering a view like no other, the designers will make use of special lighting to illuminate the flora and fauna outside. What is more, guests will also be able to zoom in and take a closer look at even the tiniest creatures using macro photography. What is more, the hotel will be built to the highest safety standards. The top disc is built high enough to withstand a tsunami and any flooding, while the underwater disc automatically surfaces at once in the event of any danger. While this is not the first hotel in the world to offer underwater rooms, it will still break quite a few records when it is ready.

There are nine people living in the town, but you can’t buy them.
