… Isn’t Father’s Day in June???

For attractive lips, speak words of kindness. For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people. For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry. For poise, walk with the knowledge that you never walk alone. People, even more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed and redeemed. Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, you’ll find one at the end of each of your arms. As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands, one for helping yourself and the other for helping others.

The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman must be seen within her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. The beauty of a woman is not in a facial mode but the true beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul.

These words are both beautiful & encouraging … most mothers have a phenomenal way of passing such sage advice on to their daughters and such; however, these are the words of an educator-humorist written for HIS grandchild. Too often, the need for a nurturing word from a father or grandfather is left only to be filled by the womanly wisdom & guidance of Momma & Big’Momma. Which are PRICELESS and IRREPLACEABLE!!! In light of Father’s Day, which is sometimes a passing thought in the month of June, I would like to acknowledge fathers (in all capacities) that truly do pass these words on to their baby girls.  Dads can be more powerful that one might think. Due to the void of fathers’ direct guidance, today’s society has somewhat discounted the importance of fatherly input. Young women will always benefit from the positive support that fathers can give to round out a strong sense of self that mothers so eloquently put into motion!  Much Love to the daddies that have been there from day1 … Kudos to the dads by default that ‘stepped’ in for the greater good … High5 to the uncles, brothers & cousins that never fail to look out … Respect to all MEN who truly know what it means to be a father to all children and do just that!

To end this with a laugh:

Chris Rock said that the primary job of a father was to keep his daughter off of the stripper pole.

It all can easily start with a kind and encouraging word.

… word? WORD!

The Lyric: Featuring Poetry Unplugged…The Experience

Lyric“The Lyric” used to be a very popular feature here at UML. But with the onset of expansion, merchandising, and some other random Mogul Sh*t, it ended up being one of the features that fell to the wayside. The Blog and what we post on it is the heart and soul of our brand. It’s what connects the Mogul in us…to the Mogul in you. With that being said…let us welcome back The Lyric. Enjoy

The Lyric: Ghost Whisperin’

For when you find yourself talking to a spirit…

Ghost Whisperin’

I wasn’t ready 365 days ago…and I’m not ready now.

Miss doesn’t seem to be the right word…but it keeps comin’ up; even though I ain’t talked about it much.

Watchin’ you leave was the hardest sh*t. What was carried with you was ripped from the hearts of those that love you. I saw it. I heard it. And I felt it.

Been hard to stop the bleeding.

Your Legacy: A Father’s Son, A Woman’s Baby, A Sister’s Rock, A Man’s Friend, And A Little Girl’s God; is heart warming. But I still need a drink…just to think about it.

I took your presence for granted.

Your light drew others to you, brought the best out in others, and lit a corner of my world…that I haven’t seen since. I haven’t gotten to the silver lining yet.

I apologize for that.

I’m still not ready…But I’m trying.

Author Claims F.B.I. Targeted & Assassinated Tupac Due To His Influence

It’s been nearly 15 years since the death of the rapper Tupac Shakur, and still to this day, his passing is a mystery … with everyone from reporters to fans to other rappers and celebrities drawing their own conclusions as to what happened.

Author John Potash, however, believes he holds the answer to Pac’s death, and has penned an entire book about it called The FBI War on Tupac Shakur and Black Leaders.

In his book, available now through his own Progressive Left Press, Potash theorizes that the rapper was targeted by the FBI due to his political affiliations and influence on black culture. Continue reading

G.O.A.T.’s – Inspired Songs

Some songs are written, others…are born of the human experience.  In those instances, the song chooses the artist…and uses them as a vessel; a sort of pathway to this world so that they can live and and inspire the lives and arts of others.  The human experience prepares that vessel; providing just the right emotion, just the right worldly pressure, and just the right circumstances for a miraculous birth. The songs we’re discussing today…were born.

There are two songs highlighted in this post.  Not because they are the absolute greatest of their kind (though one of them could be), but because they were born of the same experience, just different circumstances.  That experience…was the loss of a loved one.  Their superior composition, sincerity, and ability to move the listener make them some of the Greatest songs Of All Time. Erykah Badu’s new video is raising more than just a few eyebrows, it could be raising charges.

The Lyric – Inspiration

We all have moments when inspiration is needed,

when our motivation falters, and our shadows seem to overwhelm our guiding light.

Our vision becomes cloudy,

and we use our already soggy sleeve to wipe away what will lead to tears.

The breath we try to take smells foul and polluted,

and pressing forward seems halted by heavy feet.

We search our hearts and minds for the truth to set us free….

but none of our truths seem to apply ;

at least not to this moment.

The undaunting spirit is daunted;

your favorite sword seems heavy, yet the enemy still approaches.

And you wonder, what will stir your spirit;

what will give you strength?
