What’s Next America?

So while America was coming off of it’s BBQ high, another Black man was murdered by police. While we Facebooked, Tweeted, Instagrammed, and hashtagged our anger, another Black man was murdered by the police. While we Facebooked, Tweeted, Instagrammed, hashtagged, and peacefully marched, 4 officers were murdered. When will this end?

How many more Black men and women will have to die at the hands of police before changes will occur? Will more innocent officers have to die before any significant changes take place?

As a Black man, I am becoming numb to the senseless cycle that has played out on a continuous basis. Like clockwork an African-American is killed, the community becomes outraged, a protest/march is held, the tempers simmer down, and the cycle repeats itself. All of this ends with no concrete long term plan from either side; the community or the police officers.

What’s next?

It is ironic that this latest cycle happened virtually when the nation celebrated “freedom and independence”. When African-Americans from all walks of life donned their red, white, and blue and cheered for the freedom that we obviously have not yet attained.

What’s next?

In the words of Malcolm, the chickens have come home to roost. In no way am I condoning the killing of INNOCENT officers, but how long do you think individuals will sit back and watch the killing of African-Americans and nothing happens? Eventually, mentally unstable people will elect to put the law into their own hands and use killings as an excuse to kill innocent officers. That is what we had happen in Dallas.

What’s next?

What’s next?

What’s next?

I am not sure Moguls. But I do know SOMETHING has to change. Just like people look at the community to change from within, we must hold officers accountable to change from within. There are no magic numbers of protest that we can achieve to make corrupt officers change for the good. We can’t achieve change by hashtags, memes, or Facebook rants. There isn’t a Jesse Williams speech that will fix this. The change we are looking to happen will have to be an all hands on deck type of change. We must hold elected officials accountable. We must hold members in our community accountable. And police officers must hold other officers accountable. If we can’t do those basic things, it will only get worse. More blood will be shed in the streets.

What’s next?

The world is watching America. What’s next?
