I usually don’t get phased by foolishness. You know there are just too many issues happening these days for me to be able to give all my f#cks to. But today I was reminded just how crazy and desensitized we have become to sit back and cosign this foolery… Happy Father’s Day….. Momma!!!
Now this isn’t a brand new phenomenon I regcon it has been going on for at least 4 years, but damn that doesn’t mean we should support the notion.
First off let me clear my position by stating I know mothers have been shouldering the load for decades. Fathers being absent from the home unfortunately is happening far too often. So much that we tend to look at it as normal. And yes I agree those single moms deserve some type of accolade. But do they really need to be called Daddy on Father’s Day? For no matter how much a mother holds it down in 2 person mode they will never be a father. Similar to how a father will never be a mom.
I know a few dads out there who are doing they thing single parent style, and I don’t think any of them would want a Mother’s Day card in May, even if they make the good ass chicken noodle soup. Some things are just not meant to be. I guess the next thing we will see are Father’s Day commercials with women getting brand new lawn mowers from their children. Or how about Brooks Brothers having an online ad advertising “ties that even a mother/father would love!!!”
Mothers are lucky, on their day they get flowers, restaurant wining and dining, trips to the spa, and shopping sprees just to name a few. And now many are lucky enough to get a fishing pool and fire up the grill for the family on Father’s Day too.
