Ice Cube, John Singleton To Produce N.W.A. Movie…

In 1991, director John Singleton created Boyz N The Hood, one of the most influential hood movies ever made. And now, there’s talk of him directing an N.W.A. biopic.

Boyz N The Hood starred N.W.A. rapper Ice Cube. Singleton is teaming up with the Compton native again for the proposed biopic of the seminal gangsta rap group.

Ice Cube will produce the venture and Singleton has already persuaded New Line Cinema to distribute the film. There is also a complete script and the working title, Straight Outta Compton, has been suggested. However, Singleton is anxious to stress that production plans are nowhere near finalized.

“I can’t talk about it too prematurely about the stuff I’m doing because nothing’s come to fruition yet, but Cube and I are talking about doing the N.W.A. story,” Singleton said to Indiewire’s The Playlist. “The script is really, really good, and so we’re just figuring it out. New Line really wants to make it.”

Andrea Berloff, S. Leigh Savidge, Alan Wenkus and Matt Alvarez are all involved as writers, whilst Ice Cube, David Engel, Bill Strauss and Eazy-E’s widow Tomica Wright are on board as producers
