Snapshot: Backyard 3rd World

Written by on March 3, 2011

Again, I apologize for not knowing the photographer for this photo. There is such a wealth of images shared on the web…but not as much focus on giving credit where it’s due. As always, if anybody knows the photographer…please speak up. The title used in this post “Backyard 3rd World” is also not the original title, but it’s one that I thought was fitting. We are so used to seeing pictures of people in developing countries, shaking our heads and quietly noting what a shame it is that children have to “live like this“. Hell, some of us even go as far as to contact one of those charities that let’s you sponsor a child for less than the cost of a cup of coffee a day. But this pic…wasn’t taken in a developing third world nation…it was taken in Washington, D.C. Note the capitol dome in the background…

We are often so eager to help those in far away lands when there are similar examples of despair in our own backyards. Should we not get our home in order first?

What ya think??
